Media technologies can provide new ways to collaborate, communicate and experience content. However, they also require business leaders to make important changes to their strategy, culture and systems.
Every industry is experiencing disruption However, the impact is most pronounced in media. It’s why once-mighty giants like Blockbuster Video and Tower Records have been forced to close their doors. It’s the reason newspapers are shrinking and moving online, and it’s why the majority of TV shows have been pulled.
Amidst this unyielding industry disruption, companies must be resilient and agile. They must also embrace new methods and ways of collaboration, and rely on flexible and integrated systems to make better choices and get faster results.
Digital media can be described as any type of digital data. At its most basic digital data, it’s an assortment of binary signals (zeroes or ones) that are transmitted through satellites or cables and received by devices which transform them into audios, videos, graphics, text and much more. It covers everything from streaming videos and television programs on services such as Netflix to virtual reality surgical simulators that are used in medical facilities. It also includes websites like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram that allow users to interact by posting photos, videos and messages.
